We caught up with the team behind the Forza Horizon 2 soundtrack to find out more about what went into creating the game’s epic musical score.

Ninja Tune – the label behind some of the world’s most creative and iconic music – were tasked with creating an original score for Forza Horizon 2. The result is a sizzling hot mix of Electro, Funk, Soul, Disco and more – perfect for getting your groove on while tearing up the tarmac in one of Forza Horizon 2’s hundreds of cars.

We sat down with Ninja Tune co-founder Coldcut, and composer/producer Fanu, to find out more about their work on the Forza Horizon 2 soundtrack.

How did you approach creating the soundscape for Forza Horizon 2?

We wanted to create a unique sonic world for Forza Horizon 2 that would reflect the game’s diverse settings and spirit of adventure. The soundtrack is a mix of up-tempo electronic tracks and softer, atmospheric pieces that all share a sense of forward momentum. We drew inspiration from a wide range of sources, from classic disco and funk to modern electronica and film scores.

The game is set against the backdrop of 200 different songs across genres including rock, hip-hop and indie – so there’s definitely something for everyone, whether you’re into cars or not! Our two tracks are just a taste of what’s on offer sound-wise in Forza Horizon 2; in addition to music there’s also a dynamic day/night cycle and weather system that really adds to the sense of place in the game.
